Golf Swing Mistakes That Drain Your Golf Swing Power

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

There is an awful lot of literature in print and on the internet regarding the golf swing and what you need to do to improve your game. There is even a lot of information on golf fitness and how improving your fitness can improve your game and increase your length off the tee. Unfortunately, there is not much information out there that really teaches golfers what they need to do to correct their own swing.

What golfers need to realize is that there are a few swing mistakes that lead to a lack of power in the golf swing, and these mistakes are definitely correctable. Improving your fundamentals will help you hit the ball further. You can be able to bench press a house, but if you have one of these swing faults, you will never see much improvement in your swing speed.

Simplifying Your Sand Play Saves Strokes

Friday, March 26th, 2010

There are two keys to mastering sand play. The first is setting realistic goals when practicing. Instead of trying to place it a foot or two from the pin, work on just escaping the bunker and hitting the green every time. After you've reached this goal, set a new goal of getting the ball within 10 feet of the pin. Then, set a goal of six feet. Keep setting new goals until you're able to place the ball within a foot or two of the pin every time.

The second key to mastering sand play is perfecting technique. If you're hitting bunker shots with the wrong technique, you're not going to improve. In fact, you'll probably get worse. So make sure you're technique is sound. If you're not sure, take some golf lessons or study golf tips from a magazine or a newsletter. Just makes sure your using the right technique. Good sand play can chip a stroke or two from your golf handicap.

Think Your Way To A Lower Golf Handicap

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Personal records drive golfers to succeed. Setting a goal of breaking 90 for the first time or chopping two strokes from your golf handicap compels us to work hard, practice smart, and stay focused. It also compels use to think differently when facing difficult shots. We continually find ourselves asking the question: What's the best shot in this situation? When it's all over, you want to know if you're playing the right shot at critical times in the round.

One way to do that is to develop "go-to" shots for difficult situations, like hitting from behind a tree. We've talked about how go-to shots can help golfers in my golf tips newsletter. Using them in key situations harnesses your ability and takes advantage of your on the course strengths. More important, it lets you control the situation rather than letting the situation control you. To capitalize on this approach, you must develop an arsenal of shots you can use in the clutch. Below we discuss go-to shots in three key situations.

Playing Smart Saves Strokes

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Even players who thrive on crushing the ball know that hitting it long isn't always the best strategy. Sometimes, they need to hang back and save that muscle for another time. We call it playing smart. Tiger Woods is a great example of a player who plays smart. He knows when take what the situation gives him. That's one reason why he's one of the world's best golfers. For weekend golfers, playing smart can save strokes and keep your golf handicap from ballooning.

But playing smart isn't always the first thing on your mind when in trouble. Many golfers try "miracle shots" to salvage the situation when in trouble. Often, it's a shot they've never hit before. Save miracle shots for when you must try one. The rest of the time, play smart. It may not seem like the best strategy, but it can save you strokes later on. In my golf lessons I emphasize three situations when playing smart works well. Below I describe these situations and provide golf tips on how to play them.

New Golf Clubs or Golf School?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Do you want to improve your golf game? Are you considering spending $500 to $1,000 on new golf clubs? Of course the golf retail industry focuses on equipment. That is only natural but it is not necessarily the best way to improve your golf game. A better reality is that golf instruction, golf swing fundamentals and specific focused lessons will bring substantially better results than equipment alone.

If one wants to play better golf, you will be far better served by investing in yourself, rather than new golf clubs! The cliché says "it is the shooter making the mistake, not the gun" Believe it!

Is it the golf clubs or something else?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Once, when asked his opinion about some latest and greatest golf club, Lee Trevino said, "It's not the arrows.... it's the Indians!" In other words, "It's not the clubs, it's the swing!" Trevino is one of my favorite golfers. His swing is not even close to picture perfect, yet he is one of the all-time greats of the game. I remember hearing stories of how, in his early years, he would use things like coke bottles and shovels for his clubs and continually win bets from guys playing with the best golf equipment money could buy. There was a scene in the movie Tin Cup, where Kevin Costner was doing the same thing.

Golf Lessons Online Help You To Improve Your Swing In Record Time

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

For most people, taking golf lessons means going to a professional who can share their skill and experience; but did you know that you can also take golf lessons online? It is still a good idea to take some lessons from a pro if you are just getting started and you can learn much from an expert player, but you probably will not remember everything you learn in a few lessons. It is great to practice with a pro, but supplementing these with golf lessons online makes a wonderful addition which can help you remember what you have learned.

Having these web based resources can be a great help for those trying to learn or perfect their game. Those little things you forget can end up sabotaging an otherwise perfect swing. When you take Online Golf Lessons in addition to your sessions with a pro, you're able to review things and remember everything you need to know.

Try Golf Schools As Alternative Holiday Venues

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Have you ever considered golf schools as potential venues for your annual vacation? Or even for a short winter break? Some lucky people have a vacation in the spring, summer fall and winter, but most only have the one or perhaps two. Why not make one a golfing holiday, with some golf instruction thrown in?

After all, if you are like me and every other golfer I know, you probably need some instruction. All golfers require professional coaching once in a while; even the top pros take their personal instructors on tour with them, or have a favorite teacher that they pop in to see now and again if they have a specific problem. It doesn't have to be a massive problem, just a slight tendency to slice or hook now and again. It still needs fixed.
