Not All Arizona Golf Schools Use Desert Courses

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

If you are looking for somewhere nice and warm to play golf in the winter, Arizona could be the place for you. Arizona golf schools provide excellent facilities for you to combine a short break from home and work with some much needed winter tuition. Not only do you get some relaxation to allow you recover from the holiday period, but you also keep your golf game in trim, all ready for the start of the new season.

You Get More Than Desert Courses in Arizona

It has been said that Arizona is fine if you like desert courses, though I am not sure what that term defines. Sure, Arizona is desert country, and the courses are surrounded by desert, but not all are target golf courses with small islands of greenery surrounded by sand. The TPC at Scottsdale is a beautiful course with lovely fairways, and nothing like what comes into mind when you think of a 'desert course'.

Pheasant Run Golf Course and Country Club

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

You might not think that a city like Toronto, the very definition of urban sprawl, would have room anywhere near it for a first rate golf course and country club such as Pheasant Run. Located less than a hour’s drive from Toronto’s downtown core, the Pheasant Run golf courses, at first blush, resemble the rolling valleys of the interior of British Columbia than anything to be found in Ontario, let alone so near to the city. However, Pheasant Run is a reality right in the Heartland; let’s take a bit of a look at it.

History

Pheasant Run is a golf course and country club with a solid history behind it. The land was first developed for recreational purposes in the late 1970s, on land that had the feel of the Muskoka regions more than the typical surrounding plots. The gates to the course and club were opened to much fanfare in 1981, and since that time Pheasant Run has enjoyed increasing success and popularity among those who love to play the game.

That’s Golf Think

Friday, December 4th, 2009

The face of golf is changing. Just look at the likes of Tiger Woods, Camilo Villegas, and many of the other younger chiseled golf-bodies today and you realize that golf fitness is becoming a major part of the game. If players want to compete at the highest levels they have to have a physical routine, watch what they consume, be properly prepared mentally and then develop and follow a defined golf strategy that keeps their focus on the business at hand.

The old days of "golf not being a sport" have changed dramatically. It may still not have physical contact like some other sports but you have to get very physical in order to drive that ball consistently 300 + yards, endure the mental pressure, and walk some of those fairways. And with many of the courses reaching 7200+ yards with plenty of undulation, the game is demanding more and more.

If You’re Getting Into Golf You Must Have A Good Pair Of Golf Shoes

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Golf is one of the fastest growing leisure activities in the world. People all over the world are experiencing the joys of this challenging and rewarding sport. Golf has become wildly popular because you don't have to be a superstar athlete to enjoy it, and it's a fantastic way to relieve stress. There are countless other reasons why golf has exploded in popularity, but there isn't enough space here to list them all.

If you're just getting into golf, it's a good idea to invest in a nice pair of golf shoes. You might think that since you're just starting out you don't need to bother with shoes specifically designed for golf, but all the experts will disagree with you. If you're determined to make a go of it without purchasing golf shoes, at least make sure that you are wearing shoes with a suitable degree of traction. You don't want to be slipping and sliding around the course. Also, be aware that many golf courses require players to wear golf shoes. Be sure to check the rules at your favorite course before strolling across the fairways in a pair of tennis shoes.

One of the characteristic features of golf shoes are the spikes. Golf shoes have spikes for one obvious reason, traction. Golf doesn't require the same kind of traction you need in football, baseball, or soccer, but it does have its own specific traction requirements. First of all, you won't always being playing on a flat surface. You'll often find yourself on all sorts of slopes and angles. Picture the difficulty of pitching the ball from sloped rough in a slippery pair of shoes. Your feet will be moving around and you'll end up shanking the ball straight at your partners. That's why golf shoes have spikes on them. Also, you won't always be playing on perfectly dry grass. If you have any experience with wet grass you know it can be extremely slippery. Again, this is where the spikes become necessary. It's of the utmost important that you maintain proper form during your swing, and it's almost impossible to do that if your feet are sliding around.

Why Every Golf Course is a New Course

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Every golfer would agree that no golf course is the same as another. Although playing a variety of courses can be challenging and fun, playing at a home course is going to be different regardless of how many times it has already been played.

Yes, it is the same golf ground. In fact, the only thing that has changed is the cup position on the green. However, no golf course is the same two days in a row or even during that same day. Training golf beginners to understand this concept is often not something they truly learn until they have experienced a course a few times.

Golfing Opportunities in Costa Rica

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Have you ever wondered how many umbrella drinks it takes to go 18 holes in paradise? Find out on your next tropical golf vacation. Tee times are guaranteed by several local agencies. Due, in part, to recent government tourism incentives, golfing in Costa Rica is a little-known year-round treat – as are the burgeoning resort villas and property investment opportunities that surround these premier clubs.

The Garra de Leon at Paradisus Playa Conchal Beach & Golf Resort, par 72, typifies luxury. Garra de Leon is said to be the most magnificent in the country, in large part because of its sea-side setting. If your sporting confidence is in need of a little boost, Garra de Leon’s less challenging holes might be a good place to start. Enjoy a peaceful game that is sure end with good scores here at this tropical village resort, although elevation shifts keep the game fresh.

Reserva Melia Conchal course was designed to rival Costa Rica’s original course Melia Cariari. Sweeping fairways, large greens, lots of water and attention to detail make this a course to see. It is a huge golf course with a par 73. There are two distinct nines; each begins with a clubhouse and rolls through incredible scenery and vistas. Multiple teeing options entice the resort player, although this course is true to its challenging design.

Hacienda Pinilla Golf & Country Club, par 75, is a newer 7300 yard layout. It is on the coast, so while the challenge at Cariari is accuracy because of the trees, the test at Pinilla is the wind. Hard and fast greens are stalked by pot-bunkers. The course was created with minimal environmental impact in mind. Consequently, this is a great course to hone your tall-grass golfing skills. Keep a tight grip on your club!

Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, par 72, features “La Iguana” Oceanside golf course. It is beautiful, challenging, and a local favorite for enthusiasts. Trees are intentionally problematic to the less-than-skilled golfer, as are difficult doglegs. Dense rainforest vegetation devours wayward golf balls. Four-inch high ground cover makes finding your golf balls somewhat like an Easter egg hunt. With the ocean on one side, and the rainforest on the other, this is one of the most challenging courses in the country.

Rancho Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is a resort community. Tropical water birds and howler monkeys are attracted to the rivers on the front nine, while the back nine is steep, rocky, and hosts occasional views of the beach. This golf course is considered to be a bit more rustic than the other premier resorts.

Los Reyes Country Club and Golf, par 70, is a private golfing community. The course has nine holes now, but plans for expansion to 18 are in the works. The course tilts, somewhat, to the right, so it’s recommended that you work on your hook – and arranging your admission – before you get to the gate.

Royal Pacific Golf & Country Club’s signature is its variation between the flat front nine that follow a river and the steep, rocky back nine. Because of the terrain, conservative play here is said to be the key. Green fees include carts, and rental clubs are available.

Parque Valle Del Sol, par 72, is a beautiful golf course located in Santa Ana. Nine of the holes have only been open since the renovation was completed in 2001. All 18 holes now incorporate gardens, lakes, streams and mountain views. Rainforest wetlands and a dense canopy of wildlife and exotic birds punctuate this challenging course. The layout is challenging and fair – in most circumstances. Between the plants and the wind, you’re going to need every club you’ve got.

Tango Mar is a limited-access nine hole golf course. It has a great layout for practice, but it’s not easy. It is a private, romantic, beach-front preserve and the perfect place to refine your short game.

The Melia Cariari, par 71, is a private club and the grandfather of golf courses in Costa Rica. At nearly 6600 yards, Cariari was built on an old coffee plantation and is lined with trees. This difficult course has played host to several amateur and professional golf tournaments. Narrow fairways with few bunkers lend a challenging appeal. While tourists can only drool at Cariari’s premier greens, appreciation abounds for the club that started it all.

Las Vegas Golf Tips

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

The following tips are designed to make your booking for golf tee times as ideal and perfect as possible, while enjoying all the amenities the golf course has to give.

General Structure of Golf Courses - One consideration you have to make in planning your tee times is the general structural plan of the specific golf courses you are going into.

The greens should be specifically kept intact and fairways and tee boxes should be strategically located. Clubhouses should be built in appropriate focal points where golfers and other guests could rest along the tournament.

Change Your Mind-Set to Better Golf

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Why do you make this game so complicated? It doesn't have to be that way at all. Golf can be broken down to some clear basics and if you just focus on those you just may find yourself wanting to play more often.

And isn't that really what life is all about?

Think about this: In most sports you are playing your Strategy against someone else's Strategy which means you are always working against a moving target. In golf, that is not the case.

Your competition is the golf course and nothing else. The other players are there but they are fighting the same battles you are and playing the same golf course. The common denominator is "the golf course".
