Playing Smart Saves Strokes

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Even players who thrive on crushing the ball know that hitting it long isn't always the best strategy. Sometimes, they need to hang back and save that muscle for another time. We call it playing smart. Tiger Woods is a great example of a player who plays smart. He knows when take what the situation gives him. That's one reason why he's one of the world's best golfers. For weekend golfers, playing smart can save strokes and keep your golf handicap from ballooning.

But playing smart isn't always the first thing on your mind when in trouble. Many golfers try "miracle shots" to salvage the situation when in trouble. Often, it's a shot they've never hit before. Save miracle shots for when you must try one. The rest of the time, play smart. It may not seem like the best strategy, but it can save you strokes later on. In my golf lessons I emphasize three situations when playing smart works well. Below I describe these situations and provide golf tips on how to play them.

How to Build a Professional Golf Swing

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

There is no doubt that the golf swing is a relatively complex mechanical action that requires a specific sequence of movements in order to create a dynamic impact position.

One of the top swing flaws is 'paralysis by analysis' which destroys the natural flow of the swing.

Many golfers make the critical mistake of trying to manipulate the golf club into certain positions on their down swing. They think because they see these positions in magazine that they need to manually replicate them.

The golf swing is meant to be a natural movement. It should be a nice fluid, free flowing movement from start to finish.

With this in mind let's commence with the 5 steps necessary to create the perfect golf swing;

What Can We Learn from Professional Golfers?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Professional golfers are not only very talented, but they play smart, strategic golf. And it is the "smart, strategic..." that separates them from the good amateurs and the average club professional. They know how to stay in the moment and avoid distractions by being very focused when it comes to hitting that golf shot.

Yes, they practice for hours so that they can repeat that golf swing over and over again consistently; and they practice virtually every shot they will face when the tournament begins but all good golfers do that. But just as important as it is to making the shots, you have to know where to place those shots to get that right angle to the pin to get those extra birdies and eagles to get into the win column.

Golf is not an easy game at any level.

Golf Teaching Aid – Hitting The Approach Shot

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

There is no doubt that the approach shot to the green is one of the most important shots in your golf game. Hit it high and tight to the pin and you're set up for an excellent birdie opportunity. Hit thin or fat and you're set up for a bogey opportunity or even worse. This is why you need to spend time on the practice range hitting approach shots.

I see many higher handicap golfers struggle with their approach shots into the green. It's understandable as this shot can be a little tricky, but you it certainly doesn't have to get the best of you. Here is a golf teaching aid designed to help you improve your approach shots and begin hitting more greens in regulation. Let's get started.

The Secret To A Better Golf Game

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

A better golf game is achievable by any golfer. It doesn't matter what your age is, how good a player you are or how long you've been playing. But the key to a better golf game may not be what you think.

The 'standard' approach to a better golf game is taking lessons; buying more equipment; and hitting hundreds of golf balls at the range.

Although, the above approach is not altogether incorrect, there is one crucial missing element. That element is your BODY! You swing those fancy clubs; you hit all those balls at the range; and you physically participate in the aspect of taking lessons.

Perfect Golf Swing

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Anyone who spends time on the golf course is looking for the best possible golf swing. Some argue that there is no such thing but after witnessing some of the pros at work I would have to differ. The skill required for this game is quite imposing if you really think about it. Nevertheless, the perfect golf swing is attainable.

First of all we have to recognize that golf is a game that is as intellectual as it is physical. My husband describes it as a game of chess that involves gross motor skills. He has spent a lot of hours trying to develop the best possible swing that he can master however I think that his approach is all wrong.

The Perfect Golf Grip – Or is It?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

It's easy to say that those who don't have a good grip won't have a good game. And it's easy to say that a good grip is vital to a good swing. But what constitutes a "good grip?" How do you achieve it?

And if you don't have one, where do you get it?

Unlike the latest gadget, the training aid that helped you stop that awful slice or even your lucky golf sweater, you can't find a perfect golf grip at your favorite golf supply place.

And even more confusing, if you ask any fifty golfers - amateurs or professionals - to demonstrate The Perfect Grip, you'd likely get fifty slightly different demonstrations.

Improving Your Golf Bunker Shot

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Golfing is one of those sports that everyone should get involved in. It is fun and it is not too strenuous. That makes it perfect for people of all ages from the very young to the very old. Not many other sports can boast the huge age range of people who play golf. If there is one thing they all have in common it is the want to improve their swing. Everyone wants to score that hole in one and they all want to improve their golf bunker shot too. It is only natural.

There are several ways that you can work to improve your bunker shots and most of them are pretty basic. You don't need to grow another arm or buy some super expensive club to help you out, it is all about technique and learning from those who have been there before you. I was not a natural golfer. It took me a long time to get where I am today. For example I was one of those people, like so many others, who was always slicing the ball. No matter how hard I tried I only seemed to be getting worse, it was terrible. I practiced and I practiced and still I couldn't seem to improve my swing. Then I got smart and asked someone for help and the funny thing is that the answers they gave me were easy and simple. In no time I has solved the problem and that was that. So I have to commend you for even getting to this article because not everyone is smart enough to be willing to look for help when they need it. Now that you are here you can learn something!

Understanding The Basic Rules Of Golf

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

There are many people who embark on playing golf but do not really try to understand the rules or the golfing terms used. It's good to at least understand the basic rules before a game of golf.

Golf is played by striking a ball using a club on an area called "teeing ground." Once the ball is hit, it typically travels fairways across and onto a next prepared area. A hole could be found in this area that is called a "putting green."

The objective of the game of golf is that one should be able to complete a hole by means of hitting a ball from a teeing ground and place it inside the hole of the putting green in as few strokes as possible. What is usually referred to as a round of golf generally consists of 18 holes to be played in.
